St-Augustin-de-Desmaures, August 18, 2008 – The Minime Joakim Albert and Cadette Anne-Marie Morin from the Garneau-Crocs Ogilvy-Renault cycling team won yesterday during the Championnats Québécois Espoirs in St-Georges-de-Beauce. The Junior William Garneau, won as for him the last road race at the Grand Prix de Ste-Marie-de-Beauce, which ended at the same time yesterday.
Joakim Albert and Anne-Marie Morin have both had an excellent season: he, who almost won every race in which he took part, and she, who took nearly twenty podiums during her season. They both received the Champion Québécois title, which is the result of maintained efforts.
At the Grand-Prix de Beauce, which was occuring at the same time, William Garneau won the last 105-km road race. He was in the 6-racer breakaway who reached the arrival with a 7-minute advance, and William even rode ahead every racer at the final sprint, which made him take the first step of the podium. For the Seniors, the Brazilian, Kleber Ramos, from the Garneau-Crocs team, finished 2nd at the 135-km road race, only 1 cm behing Arnaud Papillon, the Montréal-Québec Classic winner. The finale was so tight that the commissaires needed to confer for a while in order to determine the winner with the photo finish help.
The Junior and Senior members of the team will take part in the Championnats Québécois Élite on
August 23rd and 24th in Les Cèdres. Since this competition is only for Quebec racers, the Australian and Brazilian members of the Garneau-Crocs team will end their Canadian season with the Grande Finale at the Mardis Cyclistes in Lachine, next Tuesday, August 19th.
